Champéry is a traditional Swiss alpine village tucked away at the end of the Val-d’Illiez. It has spectacular views of the Dents du Midi and Dents Blanches and offers fast access to the wider Portes du Soleil via the 5 minute telecabine up to the Croix de Culet.

Why we love Champery

● The scale of the view as you arrive at the top of the telecabine is breathtaking.
● It’s a great place to progress from semi beginner to intermediate. The slopes are wide and cruisy. There aren’t really any beginner slopes and we run our beginner sessions in this part of the Portes du Soleil out of Les Crosets.
● It’s a gourmet paradise. There are so many good restaurants in the village an up on the slopes. You can’t help but to eat well when you visit Champéry.

Stuart

Stuart loves the wide open slopes of Champery and loves to teach there. When he’s not teaching he loves to explore the big terrain.

Stefan

Stefan has been teaching in Champéry for longer than anyone can remember. He knows all of the secret backcountry routes.

Ski School Champery

Champery Ski School - Switzerland

SnowPros is a dedicated English speaking ski school in Champery and you will often find our ski instructors working with local ex-pats throughout the winter to improve their skiing. Our ski lessons are also popular with other English speaking nationalities on a ski and snowboard holiday in Champéry. Choosing a dedicated English speaking school over other ski schools ensures you will be taught in the ski instructors' mother tongue. We find beginner intermediate skiers benefit from a better level of understanding between you and your ski instructor and will allow you to improve and grow in confidence. It can also make it more enjoyable if you are spending a big part of your day in a ski lesson. Unlike other ski schools, our ski instructors aren't restricted to the same resort every day. This allows them to visit another Swiss resort to continue providing you with ski lessons in a different ski resort for continuity in your development.

Why Choose Champéry?

Champéry is a traditional Swiss village in the Portes du Soleil ski area tucked up at the end of the Val-d’Illiez that offers perfect slopes for beginner intermediate skiers on the search for a fun place to be. It offers some great skiing and fast access over into the French sector of the Portes du Soleil for those looking to cover some serious mileage in a day. Champery is accessed easily, it’s only about 15 minutes away from the autoroute exit at Monthey, and there is large parking just opposite the Planachaux lift and then a further lift, The Grand Paradis which drops you into the same area and also offers free parking. The train from Aigle arrives at Champery station, and you walk 10 meters from the train onto the télécabine!

Beginner Skiing in Champéry

The beginner skiing at Champéry is fantastic with lots of blue runs and dedicated beginner pistes that are quiet and gentle. However, there are no real areas for schools with absolute beginners in Champéry, which is why we tend to run beginner lessons in Les Crosets or Morgins, two nearby resorts. The Champery ski pass is free for the under 5’s!

Intermediate Skiing in Champéry

Intermediates will love Champéry because the red and blue runs it offers are numerous and relatively quiet. As a ski school, we love it! The snow tends to be excellent in the mornings and then softens off in the afternoons as the sun heats the up ski area. Champery/Les Crosets have invested massively in the last year in a huge system of snowmaking which will ensure guaranteed snow all season in years to come. One of the bucket list items for Champéry is the Grand Paradis run that comes from the top of the two drag lifts used to access the Swiss Wall. The run is one of the most scenic in the world and runs all the way back to Champery under the Dents Blanche. Not to be missed.

Expert Skiing in the Champéry

Another one for the bucket list for the expert skier is La Chavenette (The Swiss Wall). The Wall is the stuff of local legend and is a mogul run at least 2km long with a steepness in some parts of 50degrees. A word of warning though, The Wall is a serious thing and it’s not to be taken lightly.  Lots of people get seriously hurt on the wall each season and it isn’t to be taken on unless you are confident with both steeps and moguls. This said, there is a two-way lift for beginner intermediate skiers that runs up and down the Wall so you can watch the crazy people going down it!

Eating & Aprés in Champéry

Champéry has an excellent reputation as a foody paradise, and there are lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. In the morning, we enjoy a quick coffee in Le Gheulli, which is just opposite the Planachaux télécabine before heading up to start the day. To save you having to search for a great mountain restaurant, we recommend Le Toupin, which is located just on the way down to the drag lifts that access the Grand Paradis.  The Croute in there is fantastic, as are the pommes frites. After skiing, there are a couple of spots to hit, Mitchell’s Sports Bar just up from the télécabine is usually good, as is At Home in the middle of the high street.

Champery Ski Hire

SnowPros Ski School recommends these ski hire shops for beginner intermediate and advanced skiers. Borgeat Sports located at the bottom of the télecabine and Gonnet sport which can be found and the centre of the village. Search online to find them.
