Covid Update: Skiing safely in Switzerland this winter with SnowPros

Information accurate as at 17 February 2022

On 17 February 2022 the Swiss Federal Council lifted pretty much all of the coronavirus measures that have been in place for the last two years. The only restrictions that remain are obligatory masks in enclosed public transport and in hospitals and these remaining rules will go in 6 weeks time.

Ski lifts - Switzerland Coronavirus Rules

Ski resorts in Switzerland will apply the following rules:

  1. On enclosed ski lifts, adults and children over 12 years old will have to wear a mask. This is for enclosed lifts and includes telecabines, bubble lifts, funiculars, trains. Chairlifts, t-bars, button lifts and magic carpets are not included in this rule

  2. No covid passes are required for accessing the mountain lift infrastructure for Swiss skiing this winter. Switzerland is now a covid pass free country.

Some ski resorts will apply these rules more strictly than others.

Skiing with our clients - SnowPros Covid Guidelines

We come into contact with lots of clients on a daily basis so it is important that we are very conscious of our own health and our obligation to protect the health of others. Last year we had no instances of covid within the ski school despite skiing with thousands of clients throughout the winter. In any given lesson the amount of personal client contact is fairly limited anyway. We are fortunate that our sport takes place outdoors.

For the remainder of this winter we will:

  1. Ensure that all instructors have their buff/mask on them at all times for use in enclosed lifts

  2. Where the client feels strongly about our instructors wearing a mask outdoors for a lesson, we will ask the instructor concerned is they are comfortable to do that.

Cross border skiing - Covid

Some of the areas that we ski in like the Portes du Soleil and La Dole are in both Switzerland and France. French skiing will be open this winter and requires a covid passport from age 12. The same applies for restaurants and bars in France. The French have said that they will be controlling covid passes randomly for cross border skiers. In our on snow experience, there are no checks being made on the slopes but random controls are being made on the entry points in the French ski areas.

See you on the slopes.
